Pros and cons of Pocket Pharmacist app for iPhone and iPad

Pocket Pharmacist app good for

This is a very comprehensive listing of medicines and they are constantly up dating.
App is a fantastic quick reference tool. Providing quick concise information.
I work in Social Services and this program is excellent pocketnreference. Priced rigjt too. Thanks.
This is a very handy reference with good, useful information on drugs. The system for recording drugs taken could stand improvement to make it more user friendly, for instance by enabling groups of pills taken at common times(breakfast, supper, bedtime, etc.) I am looking forward to future evolution of what has already made a great start.
I find it very handy to be able to see all of my medications in a convenient list. With my medical conditions, I am often asked to provide a current list of my medications. In addition, its very helpful to see the side effects and any conflicts in my medications so that I am better informed when speaking with my doctors.
As a community health care provider, this app alone has made my investment in an iPad "worth it"! I have a "pill box" for each of my clients which is so easy not only set up but to maintain. It is my first line of red alert for possible drug interaction issues and in recognising side effects. I was prepared to give this app five stars before the update! Now it gets a 5+.

Some bad moments

This app is very incomplete. It is missing a lot of the common drugs including contraceptives as well as common vitamins and minerals. I am a drugless practitioner, however searching some of these medications helps me determine if there are any possible side effects or interactions owing to there presenting complaint. I definitely expected something a bit more comprehensive.
My comments on the PocketPharmacist APP Three bucks to check that my doctor and pharmacist are aware of and keeping good track of interactions and side effects of my 11 prescriptions. They ARE! This info should not be place in the hands of the paranoid patient. LOL I also use another APP called RxMindMe to keep track of meds on hand and remind me to take my meds. I would recommend RxMindMe. I have found RxMindMe quite useful signaling when pills on hand get below a preset number. Also, a drum beat sounds to remind me to take my pills. There is only the note function to keep track of when no more refills are permitted and my doctor will not refill by FAX anymore (new government billing rules for the clinic: by the visit billing instead of my the patient!!!) RxMindMe is certainly more useful than the PocketPharmacist!!
I deleted my previous review. Will resubmit a review after the coming updates. (2016)
You can set reminders for meds, and I love the interaction feature where you can enter one or more meds to see if they have unwanted side effects or have bad interactions. You can also search any other meds, prescription or OTC and get additional info about them. Great app!! So useful and helpful!!
I was immediately able to understand the plethora of meds my 92 year old mother is taking. Brand and generic are presented and the classification feature shows all other drugs that my be interchanged. Fast, accurate and indispensable.
I bought this app last week after I became very frustrated learning about a family members medications and interactions. It immediately helped us understand each medication better, how they work, how they interact and how they affect a person. I love the med check feature since it lets u know what the meds may be causing and whats worse or better.... Or has less effects. All other features such as patients and prescribers information are great as well. This is the best $1.99 I ever spent :) I would pay for an app that shows a graph of half lifes of certain medications accumulate in the body over time and the net effect of half lifes of regular pills really add up in the body in any given time. I would hope that his app adds this feature. For example, if the doctor prescribes a medication twice a day but its half life is 30 hours, does it make sense to take it twice a day since the net concentration of the medication would naturally be increasing with such a long half life? Sometimes docs are not aware of all the details and u have to check them out urself!!
